Introduced as part of the Arizona State University Visual Communication Design Program Senior Thesis and Capstone presented as "Spatial Mismatch Via Public Transit".
Through an acculmination of work, an exhibition to be available for view the first week of May 2024, the Senior Capstone provides an opportunity for students to study a social issue and develop visual advocacy based upon chosen topic.
As a case study on Atlanta, GA's Public Transit System, the clock focuses on the direct relationship between the inaccessibility of public transit and it's impact on the spatial mismatch theory. To which establishes socially exclusive environments for low-income and communities of color. Connecting both transit routes to outer city lines, the clock highlights how the heart of a community can run dry without equal access.
Conceptualized and built throughout the fall, the final product is a fully functional design that tells time. Final product unveiled for public viewing on November 1, 2023 at The Design School DSN Red Square amongst the rest of the participating senior class. Information about the event and the clock are featured in Arizona State University's The State Press' "Time for Change: Design Students Spread Social Awareness Using Clocks as their Medium".
Following in suit, conceptualization and production of the exhibition was avaliable for interaction May 1–5, 2024 at Arizona State University's Visual Communication Design Senior Exhibition. Built fully out of 1/4" and 1" thick cardboard, all information and iconography were etched with a laser cutter; with a hand-stitched coptic bound book to support- available to view upon request. Each colorway present follows the hues within transit maps, with a structure that follows Arizona's grid streetway system.
